What we want
Congress wrote a law with nothing behind it.
They ordered the files released in thirty days and attached no punishment for ignoring it. So it was ignored. These four things are already in their power.
The four demands
Put a penalty in the law
The Act has no consequence for breaking it. A deadline nobody has to meet is not a deadline.
Enforce the subpoena you already issued
The Oversight Committee subpoenaed the attorney general in March on a bipartisan vote. Contempt proceedings exist for this standoff and have not been used.
Put them under oath
The department says its review is over. Ask who decided that, on what date, and what was left unexamined. Ask in public.
Use the money
Congress funds the Justice Department every year. That is leverage they already hold and have not spent.
Every candidate on your ballot in November can commit to all four today.
